Kareem Shami (born 26 September 2001), known online as Syrian Psycho and K. Shami, is a Syrian-American internet personality and one of the first looksmaxxing creators to reach a mass TikTok audience. Press has called him a poster boy of softmaxxing and, in his own later branding, the "godfather of looksmaxxing."[1] There was no standalone English Wikipedia biography of him as of September 2026.
Early life
Shami was born in Syria on 26 September 2001.[2] His family fled the Syrian civil war in 2012 and settled in Beirut. He has said he was bullied there as "the only Syrian" and "quite white-looking, despite being Arab," which he later cited as the start of an appearance obsession.[1][3] He later moved to the United States for university; in 2024 GQ described him as a college student in California.[4]
Career
A first TikTok account, focused on Arab and Muslim-related clips, was banned. He launched @syrianpsycho in late 2021 and shifted to fitness, grooming, and "maximize your potential" videos.[2] A before-and-after transformation circulated widely in 2022; GQ wrote that related TikToks "have amassed tens of millions of views."[4] The New York Times (November 2023) already treated @syrianpsycho as a mainstream softmaxxing account with about 1.2 million followers, citing a clip that joked about mewing and "starvemaxxing" in a restaurant.[5]
Shami's public protocol, as he described it to GQ, included Accutane for acne, jaw-stretching / mewing, and Volufiline around the eyes — the last of which the magazine noted had not been extensively researched.[4] This encyclopedia records that as self-report, not as a method.
In summer 2023 he launched Mogwarts, a paid Skool community. GQ reported more than 2,000 paying members, a $10 monthly fee, guest lectures (including Brett Maverick and Mike Mew), and Shami's claim of more than $60,000 in revenue by mid-2024.[4] Men's Health put the public price at $19 a month and wrote that Mogwarts claimed almost 3,000 paying members.[3]
YouTube uploads appear under the channel name K. Shami (on the order of 300,000 subscribers in 2025–2026 listings). He has sat for long interviews, including with model Chico Lachowski and podcaster Jack Neel.[6] The Business of Fashion (April 2026) grouped him with Clavicular and Oscar Patel as creators who had "gained millions of followers" on extreme male-beauty techniques.[7] The February 2026 Sportskeeda snapshot of Official Chad Rankings listed K Shami at number nine — the same person, under the YouTube byline.[8]
Reception
GQ treated Mogwarts as an attempt to build a "hate-free" lounge inside a genre known for suicide slang and "brutal mog compilations," and quoted members who said the program had become an addictive loop.[4] NZ Skeptics (May 2026) listed Syrian Psycho among looksmaxxers selling advice through affiliate funnels.[9] Scene commentary (Rorz, January 2026) called him more "brain friendly" than Clavicular — opinion, not a medical rating.[10]
