The midpalatal suture runs down the midline of the hard palate, joining the palatine processes of the two maxillae.[1] Palate expansion is an attempt to open it. In kids it often yields; in adults it may need MARPE/MSE or surgical assistance. Age is a clue, not a law — CBCT staging exists because some 16-year-olds are already fused and some are not.
Looksmaxxing treats a split suture as a midface cheat. Complications (asymmetric expansion, teeth, relapse, pain) are why this is an orthodontist’s call.
