The midpalatal suture runs down the midline of the hard palate, joining the palatine processes of the two maxillae. Palate expansion is an attempt to open it. In kids it often yields; in adults it may need MARPE/MSE or surgical assistance. Age is a clue, not a law — CBCT staging exists because some 16-year-olds are already fused and some are not.
Looksmaxxing treats a split suture as a midface cheat. Complications (asymmetric expansion, teeth, relapse, pain) are why this is an orthodontist’s call.
