Chin wing osteotomy (also mandibular wing osteotomy) is an operation on the lower border of the mandible, described by Swiss maxillofacial surgeon Albino Triaca (Klinik Pyramide, Zürich) from 2009–2010.[1] Unlike a sliding genioplasty, which only moves the chin button, a chin wing cuts a long “wing” of basal bone from the chin back toward the angles so the whole jawline border can be rotated, dropped, advanced, or widened independently of the tooth-bearing jaw and the joints.[2]
Looksmaxxing YouTube surgery tier lists treat chin wing as the osteotomy that can change gonial angle and ramus height without a full bimax.[3] That is scene talk. The published indication is contour of the lower third — retrogenia, hyperdivergence, asymmetry — and, in later literature, masculinizing or feminizing the mandibular border.[4]
