Aziz Sergeyevich Shavershian (24 March 1989 – 5 August 2011), known online as Zyzz, was an Australian bodybuilder, personal trainer, and internet personality. He built a cult following from 2007 by posting gym videos, club clips, and a lean "aesthetic" look on YouTube, Facebook, Bodybuilding.com, and 4chan's /fit/ (health and fitness) board. He died in Thailand at 22.

This encyclopedia treats him as a progenitor of looksmaxxing, not as a 2020s Kick coach. The later boards inherited his "aesthetics" meme — tan, low body fat, bleached tips, Veni Vidi Vici — years before the word looksmaxxing was coined on PSL forums. The Guardian (2026) put it as "decades before the extreme aesthetic trend of looksmaxxing, there was Zyzz." Wired called him, depending on the reader, "the original looksmaxxer" or an early forefather of later masculinity influencers. He had one older brother, Said Shavershian, later known online as Chestbrah. The family moved to Australia in 1993, when Aziz was four. He was raised in Eastwood, a Sydney suburb, and attended Marist College Eastwood, where he was dux of the college. At his death he was close to graduating from the University of Western Sydney in business and commerce.

Contemporaries described him before the gym as a "skinny kid" and an ectomorph.

== Bodybuilding and "aesthetics" ==
After secondary school, inspired by his brother's physique, he joined a local gym and spent three to four hours a day training. He named Arnold Schwarzenegger and Frank Zane as favourite professionals. He later said the original motive was to "impress girls," then that the motive became the feeling of hitting gym goals.

He became the poster boy of an Australian amateur subculture dubbed aesthetics: a lean, tanned, low-body-fat look rather than mass-monster bodybuilding. That look — not a surgical protocol — is what later looksmaxxing boards mean when they still say "Zyzz." See gymmaxxing and physique.

He released a protein label, Protein of the Gods (June 2011), a clothing line, and Zyzz's Bodybuilding Bible (17 May 2011), a compilation of training notes. He worked as a personal trainer, aspiring model, and part-time stripper. He said social media had built the brand.

== Internet following ==
Videos from 2007 onward mixed gym footage, club dancing later called "muzzing," and catchphrases (including Veni, Vidi, Vici tattooed on his chest). He was a regular presence on /fit/ and Bodybuilding.com's miscellaneous board. Urban Dictionary called him the "epitome of aesthetics" in 2010. He appeared as himself in the Australian web series The National Road Trip (2011) and had a brief extra credit on Underbelly: The Golden Mile (2010).

By 2011 Australian newspapers treated him as a Facebook celebrity. After his death, Google searches in Australia for his name ran at the same order of magnitude as searches for then–prime minister Julia Gillard over May 2011–May 2012. His death was among the most-searched death-related topics in Australia that year.

== Steroids ==
On 14 July 2011 Said was arrested in Sydney for possession of anabolic steroids; he later pleaded guilty. The Sydney Morning Herald illustrated the case with Aziz's photograph. Aziz objected: he had not been charged. Asked by The Daily Telegraph, he denied using steroids and attributed the physique to gym work and diet. The strip club that employed him told the Herald he was "a lovely guy, aside from the steroids." The Daily Telegraph noted his use of gym slang such as "riding bicycles," which that paper glossed as steroid-cycle talk.

This encyclopedia records the dispute. It does not publish a cycle. Gymmaxxing that uses anabolics is pharmacology, not a forum drill.

== Death ==
Shavershian died on 5 August 2011 in Thailand, aged 22. Australian reporting at the time, confirmed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on 9 August, said he suffered a heart attack in a sauna (Pattaya or Bangkok, depending on the outlet) and could not be revived. Family statements, carried by Ninemsn and the Telegraph, said an autopsy found a previously undiagnosed congenital heart defect and cardiomegaly, and that he had had high blood pressure and occasional shortness of breath in the preceding months, with a family history of heart problems.

A 2026 documentary, Poster Boy: Becoming Zyzz (Selina Miles), obtained later paperwork. The Guardian, Wired, and the Sydney Morning Herald reported its account: he had facial procedures in Bangkok (the consular note cited nose and cheek reconstruction and buccal-fat removal on 19 July 2011); he was found unresponsive at a wellness spa after asking to sleep during a foot massage, not in a sauna; and a toxicology report cited acute respiratory failure from combined morphine, cocaine, and benzodiazepines. The filmmakers said they did not know whether the enlarged heart came from steroid use or something else.

Both layers are on the record. 2011 public reporting is the heart-defect / sauna account. 2026 documentary reporting is the toxicology / spa / surgery account. This page does not collapse them into one cause in the infobox.

== Legacy ==
Said released a 19-minute tribute, Zyzz – The Legacy, on 22 March 2012 (tens of millions of YouTube views by the mid-2020s). Fans still post gym and "we're all gonna make it" tributes. At Sydney's Field Day festival on New Year's Day 2012, people dressed as him. In November 2022 Flume's Triple J Like a Version of Bag Raiders' "Shooting Stars" brought Chestbrah onstage to "muzz."

On looksmaxxing boards he is a precursor pin-up: softmaxxing physique and presentation, not a surgical stack and not a Kick ranking. Official Chad Rankings and similar kayfabe lists still mix him with living streamers and fictional characters. He is in-scope here as history of the aesthetic meme the later scene inherited. He is not a how-to.
